Overview

Continuing their commitment to enhance the competitiveness of Inverclyde as a place to ‘live, work, visit, invest and do business in’, Riverside Inverclyde purchased the Grade A Listed Custom House building, built in 1818. Situated by the River Clyde the building presented an ideal development opportunity for modern office and conference accommodations in a most prestigious historic building

Scope of work

We delivered adaptation works over 2 floors of the building’s East Wing, fully modernising with structural alterations and thermal improvements, redefining the existing layout whilst retaining the original architectural features. For compliance and sustainability the entire building was made fully accessible for all with ramps, lifts and door widening.

Varying in sizes from 289sqft to 4000sqft, we created a range of office suites, meeting rooms and staff facilities designed to appeal to a range of potential future occupiers.

Finished to the highest standards, with quality timber finishes, clean lines and pristine decoration the striking suites showcase the restored original features alongside modern services and technological installations. Crafted with flexible partitions, the layout can be adapted to suit occupiers’ bespoke requirement.

Situated at the entrance is the Grand Staircase, we create a contemporary entrance foyer sure to impress any visitor, complete with reinstatement of the building’s Coat of Arms complementing the original architectural features, such as the ornate plasterwork and restored cast-iron metalwork, we installed bespoke ‘halo’ lighting system.

Bounded by the local Police Office, Beacon Arts Theatre, and with operational businesses in the adjoining Wings, great care was taken to ensure works were contained with the site boundary with no impact on existing services, emergency access routes or obstructing traffic.

‘Upgrading the building has required a complex restoration programme including a sophisticated fire strategy, structural and acoustic requirements, as well as the need for strict compliance with listed building conditions which all placed difficult demands on the Team. The project was not without difficulties, but the results are testament to the quality such an impressive building merits.’
