Overview
Situated in the small, but increasingly popular village of Maidens in South Ayrshire, the Local Authority identified the requirement to increase the current capacity for nursery aged children.
Having selected an area within the existing Maidens Primary School, our remit was to undertake a range of internal alterations involving downtaking of existing walls creating bright and open learning and play areas for the children, alongside new purpose built toilets and cloakroom.
Our skilled team were able to complete these extensive works within the tight timeframe, to the delight of the staff.
To make best use of the space non-loadbearing partitions had to be carefully removed. Once removed, it afforded our team the opportunity to undertake asbestos removal.
When the new layouts had been created through installation of new partitioning, a significant amount of work was required before it could be occupied. This stage of the works included the installation of mechanical, electrical, IT and plumbing services and specialist furniture. The clever reconfiguration made excellent use of the space available, creating staff toilets and additional storage.
The final stage comprised the cosmetic work, with the renewal of flooring, wall and ceiling finishes and general redecoration.
Externally an access and play area was assigned for the nursery, for which we constructed a safe ramp-style access route, new non-slip decking with a bespoke canopy feature and outside play area finished in durable and sustainable Azure Orange Wet Pour Rubber surfacing.
Works were completed on time and within the tight-budget for the new Term start.
