Overview
Route 81 Youth Project identified the need for flexible amenities to suit the variety of requirements sought by the immediate and wider community where people could meet, also promoting the Centre for events, activities and functions.
MAST Architects administered the project and appointed our Company as Main Contractor with a focus on creating flexible user space, fully recognising the Centre’s potential.
Scope of work
Our remit was to structurally extend and redefine the space, adapting the existing layout of the building (a William Leiper designed Primary School).
Designed to host a range of activities the construction process created new facilities comprising IT Suite, Meeting Rooms, Gym & Fitness Suites, Dormitories, Kitchen, Café, Shower & Toilet accommodations and associated staff offices.
The focal point of the construction was the Main Hall which was purposely designed for multi-users to hold sport, social and community events. Installations included a moveable partition system allowing reconfiguration of the layout and specialist floor coverings selected for their flexibility and durability to suit all usages, prolonging the life and purpose of the building.
Now complete, Route 81 Centre has been transformed into a modern and dynamic facility with regular events including Dance Workshops, Sports Competitions, Community Cinema Nights and social events.
‘W H Kirkwood Ltd performed well. They are positive to work with, always looking for solutions and not claims conscious, efficient in noting changes to the work proposed which is useful. We have worked with WHK on a range of other projects and have no hesitation in recommending them. ‘
