W.H. Kirkwood is proud to announce our appointment as the lead contractor for the ambitious redevelopment of Posties Park in Dumbarton. This landmark project, commissioned by West Dunbartonshire Council, will see the transformation of a historic sporting site into a modern, regional hub for athletics and community health.
A Modern Sporting Destination
The project involves a comprehensive overhaul of the existing site to create a professional-grade environment for athletes and the local community. The “new-look” Posties Park will feature:
- A Professional Athletics Track: Replacement of the original track with a new six-lane, all-weather surface.
- State-of-the-Art Pavilion: A bespoke, 75-metre-long facility featuring a distinctive curved roof and canopy. This building will house a modern gymnasium, weights area, changing rooms, and hospitality space.
- Site Infrastructure: Installation of professional floodlighting, a perimeter security fence, a 16-bike bicycle shelter, and dedicated parking.
Balancing Development with Environment
At W.H. Kirkwood, we understand the importance of delivering projects that respect their natural surroundings. The Posties Park site sits against a beautiful natural backdrop and near sensitive wildlife habitats.
Our team is working closely with the council and environmental partners to ensure the construction process includes necessary screening measures—such as protecting local bird breeding grounds – and integrates the new building seamlessly into the wider setting of the park.
Investing in the Future of Athletics
This £2.2m+ investment is a vital step for grassroots sports in West Dunbartonshire. Maurice Donohue of the West Dunbartonshire Athletics Club has noted that the new facility will provide a “focal point” for promoting walking, jogging, and running in the area.
By providing high-quality facilities, W.H. Kirkwood is helping to create a legacy that will encourage the next generation of athletes to get involved in the sport.
Work is currently underway, with a scheduled completion date of Spring 2022. We look forward to seeing the first runners take to the track at what promises to be one of the premier sporting venues in the region.
